" A 3 year old could do it"

A criticism often levelled at  modern contemporary, and abstract art in particular, is the public's perception of art and the conclusion that "a three year old could do that!"
Unlike , say, a piece of music that we hear and accept that we either "like" or "dislike"  without analysing why that should be, we constantly feel that we have to immediately recognise a subject to understand it and quite often are not prepared to spend time and gain more from a piece of art.
Anyway here's a piece of art that is by a three year old - but I kinda wish that I'd done it!!!

Night Train

A new painting - acrylic on canvas "Night Train". The title comes from an album originally recorded by Oscar Peterson  in 1962 and conjures up an image of travelling through the night as you catch fleeting glimpses of the landscape.

Exhibition visit

This weekend I attended the private view of an exhibition of work by the Hastings based artist Peter Waldron, with a selection of worked produced at his studio on the Greek island of Crete including paintings and drawings from the new "Totemakia" series.
This was a well attended event on a wet and stormy night and gave me the chance to meet the artist and his wife Lois. His work features in the November 2013 edition of "Coast" magazine and you can see more of his work on www.peterwaldron.co.uk
Thanks to Anthony and Rose for their kind invitation, the exhibition runs until the 20th. of November. For more details www.anthonyhepworth.com
