Black Swan Arts visit (Artists in focus No.3)

           I spent the day recently at the Black Swan Arts gallery/centre in Frome, Somerset England.
I chose a good day as I met up with three artists, all with differing styles of work.

Paul Newman in his studio/gallery

 

I first met the artist Paul Newman, a "graphite" artist who also helps with the curating of the Black Swan exhibitions. Newman maintains a studio /gallery within the complex and his work is part of the Open exhibition currently on display.

Another artist who is currently working in a "pop up" studio/gallery is the landscape artist Tony McLaughlin. His work is mainly oil on canvas, but a leaf through some of his sketchbooks showed an eclectic mix of styles.

Finally, the artist who has a show in the "Round Tower" gallery is David Smith. The exhibition runs until the 28th. of November and full details of artists participation can be found on his website and the Black Swan site. Smith has a piece entitled "Black Squares ,Black Lines & Black Magic" that
will be added to during the show.

The Fleet

"Token of Tango"

    







          A new painting inspired by the music of the Scandinavian jazz pianist Tord Gustavsen entitled "Token of Tango" taken from the album "The Ground" the name seemed to suit the picture.

Murison studio/gallery (Artists in focus No.2)

 

 

 

 

       I spent a day recently with a colleague, the artist Neil Murison RWA at his studio/gallery and home "The Grange" near Bristol England. We meet regularly at life drawing classes but this was an opportunity to discuss art and view some of the work of this prolific artist. 

 

                                                                         

        Murison was born in 1930 and it was fascinating to talk to an artist that has exhibited across Europe and whose work is held in many permanent collections.

Timanfaya

A recent painting depicting the volcanic landscape of  Lanzarote.
 I'll visit again this year to  draw and photograph the unique features of  the island.
