A welcome return to Pefkos on the Greek island of Rhodes, meeting up with some old friends and meeting new ones. My customary small sketchbook provided a diary both visual and written along with some photographs and some larger watercolours.

A recent trip to the Algarve Portugal, staying just outside the charming town of Armacao De Pera. In an apartment overlooking a parched, dry olive grove I could watch the farmer cut the grass and a local goatherd walking his herd to be milked.
Armacao De Pera has a long sandy beach popular with tourists and locals alike. At the far end of the beach the local fishermen repair their nets and launch their boats from the beach, their quirky huts giving shade from the heat and a chance to grow vegetables even in the sandy soil.

Here are a couple of pieces started from ten minute poses and elaborated on back in the studio. I've used mixed media on cartridge paper including pencil, watercolour and oil pastel .
A new painting with reference to an olive grove on the Greek island of Crete. The word "Elies" is Greek for olives.
